Role guidance

What Providers Typically Look For Across Social Care

The criteria below are general guidance. Individual services and vacancies may ask for different experience, checks, professional registration or qualifications.

01

Children’s Residential Care

Support and senior roles may ask for:

  • Relevant children’s residential or supported accommodation experience
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, an equivalent, or willingness to work towards it
  • Strong safeguarding and trauma-informed practice
  • Flexibility for shifts and sleep-ins where the service requires it
  • Enhanced DBS and right-to-work checks
02

Adult Care & Support

Care and support roles may ask for:

  • Experience relevant to the people and setting supported
  • Care Certificate or a role-appropriate health and social care qualification
  • Adult safeguarding, Mental Capacity Act and practical care training
  • Medication, moving and handling or specialist clinical competencies where needed
  • Enhanced DBS and right-to-work checks
03

Senior, Clinical & Specialist Roles

Typical requirements may include:

  • Shift-leading, supervisory or specialist practice experience
  • Confident care planning, record keeping and quality oversight
  • Ability to coach and support colleagues
  • Current professional registration for regulated clinical roles
  • Service-specific training and competencies
04

Registered & Operational Leaders

Leadership appointments commonly need:

  • Evidence of leading the relevant type of service and workforce
  • Sector- and role-specific management qualifications
  • Strong safeguarding, governance and improvement experience
  • Understanding of registration, inspection and quality expectations
  • Suitability for the specific regulated role and service

In England, expectations differ between Ofsted-regulated children’s provision and CQC-regulated adult services. We’ll confirm the specific requirements of each vacancy before putting you forward. Every role needs an enhanced DBS and the right to work in the UK — we are not a licensed sponsor, so we cannot offer visa sponsorship or take over an existing certificate. You can see the typical criteria for individual roles on our role profiles.
